Emmy Meli, the Long Beach native and TikTok breakout artist, rocked a hometown show at the Constellation Room at the Observatory in Santa Ana, CA, Monday, July 25, 2022. Opening the evening was indie pop artist, Gabe James. James, who recently relocated to Los Angeles by way of Colorado, played a dynamic acoustic set of original songs, including “Gracie”. The crowd went wild for his spectacular cover/rewrite, of Olivia Rodrigo’s “Good 4 U (4 the Boys)”. James engaged brilliantly with the crowd, encouraging them to sing along with his cover of Neon Trees‘ “Everybody Talks”.
The packed Constellation Room went wild as Emmy Meli and her full band took to the stage.
Emmy shared with her fans that up until a few days prior to her show, she had completely lost her voice. She said that it was just coming back and she was going to have fun! She kicked off the night with “Tribute to Hollywood”. Next, fans went crazy singing along to “Matrix”, which caused Emmy to pause at the end of the song in awe — hearing her songs being sung back to her, word for word.
Meli looked stunning in her black G-string bodysuit, flowing red gloves, red tights and knee-high black and silver cowboy boots. Wearing signature strawberry dangly earrings, she launched into “Throwing Up Strawberries”. Meli shared with the crowd that this was her first show with a full band and let me tell you… they are AMAZING! Emmy then took a moment to share with the crowd how she struggles with anxiety and how loud things can get in her brain; she wished for anyone in the room who also deals with the same that they, too, might find their ‘quiet’ before singing, “Silence”. One would never know that just a few days ago she had no voice.
Of course, the night would not be complete without her viral hit “I Am Woman”. Emmy shared that she originally wrote the song as ‘mantras’, to increase her confidence and as a reminder of all the things she appreciates about herself. The room took over singing the song, as Meli held out the microphone, grinning ear-to-ear. Be sure to catch this rising powerhouse at Firefly Music Festival in Delaware!
