Yes I Can presents a night of hip hop, featuring Chali 2na

On September 7th, 2019, there is a very special art show and concert that will take place at ToolboxLA in Chatsworth, California with Chali 2na and Tyrone’s Jacket. That’s right, the Yes I Can Festival, produced by the students of Yes I Can, is back! If you’re not familiar with the Yes I Can Unity Through Music & Education nonprofit organization [YIC], it is a program dedicated to working with college students and young adults with disabilities, teaching them the skills needed to find employment in the music and film entertainment industries. Most of the young adults in the program are on the autism spectrum; through YIC, they get very involved with the community and are able to create events helping to spread unity through the universal language of music and art. They also get to put skills taught by the program into action at the live events they produce!

Some YIC students have gone on to find employment in entertainment industries specializing in lighting, sound and artist management…

The Yes I Can program was put together by Bret Lieberman, Founder and Executive Director of YIC, along with his partner Kirsten Fitzpatrick as Deputy Director. The two came together with the same vision of wanting to show how these special young adults have amazing abilities, talents that should be seen first before anyone focuses on their disabilities. Bret has been producing live events in Santa Clarita for the last 20 years; one of his favorite events is Summer Meltdown in which he produces with his students annually. Some YIC students have gone on to find employment in entertainment industries specializing in lighting, sound and artist management — to name a few. YIC was definitely the catalyst that helped elevate its students into those careers! YIC is doing something special and should be supported by all.

On this particular evening, artist Chali 2na (of Jurassic 5 and Ozomatli) as well as Tyrone’s Jacket have generously donated their talents to give us a special night of music which will leave you feeling good. Not only that, the art and photography of Chali 2na and guest live painters will be a treat, as well! Please come out and support what is sure to be a fulfilling evening. The event might be 18+, but there will be a bar for the 21+ crowd and the best part is, the event is FREE with an RSVP at Eventbrite below. Who will we see there?
