New Skeletal Faces drops gothic, guttural ‘Until The Night’ LP

California’s up-and-coming goth rock outfit New Skeletal Faces dropped their newest album Until The Night in early November — and it’s something we’re still spinning on our analog-looking digital record player.

Consisting of eight tracks, reminiscent of the 80s metal scene, ‘Until The Night’ delivers.

From first to last, the album is a gory gothic platform, right from the 80s. A perfect example is the lead track “Disexist”, with its emotional and terror-inducing tonality. Talk about setting the vibe for the album! Right when you settle in, here comes the title track second, that feels more 80s-alternative with a slight punk vibe.

My favorite track from the album is “Wombs”; its evocative sound took me back to post-punk Johnny Rotten’s PIL. To be honest, New Skeletal Faces is more metal angst-meets-punk rock more than the typical dark and dreary ‘goth rock’ group. I think we can expect more from this band in the future as they continue to develop their sound — they do have great potential!

The album was recorded in Hollywood by producer/engineer Bill Metoyer (Slayer, Wasp, DRI). Of the recording, Bill Metoyer said, “It was a pleasure working with New Skeletal Faces, a band who not only chose to NOT follow recent songwriting trends, that so many other newer metal bands seem to do nowadays, but also the trends in the SOUND of their record.” Well, cheers to that.
