Rebelution ‘Free Rein’ album review

Over the last decade, Rebelution have dominated mainstream American reggae radio waves and wowed some of the biggest festival audiences around the world with their melodic reggae anthems. And although they’ve had an astounding impact on their home country, Rebelution’s journey is one that has played out on a global scale, with all the sweet, guitar riffs, catchy bass lines and stage presence you could hope for.

Since releasing their first studio album Courage to Grow in 2007, Rebelution have taken their music throughout the United States headlining festivals across America, and most recently scheduled to embark on their Free Rein Summer Tour with Stephen Marley, Common Kings and Zion-I.

the essence of what made the name Rebelution legendary remains alive

On Free Rein, Rebelution’s latest offering, the band collaborated with Jamaican artists on three of the 12 new tracks. Don Corleon (Sean Paul, Rihanna) produced “Rise On Top,” a pointed reflection on celebrity and ambition; and Winta James, producer for Damian Marley and Chronixx, worked with the band on “Settle Down Easy” and “City Life,” two songs that reflect a more confessional perspective.

“Celebrate” opens the album and is proof that the essence of what made the name Rebelution legendary remains alive, as Eric Rachmany takes the helm and provides elaborate guitar riffs and potent vocals. “City Life” and “Settle Down Easy” are also great examples of Rebelution’s mature songwriting and versatility.

Free Rein is undeniably classic Rebelution and is easily re-playable and be placed alongside your shelf alongside every other Reb album without watering down your collection in any way.
