Since 2008, these San Diego natives have been pumping out music and making huge impressions across the United States. In just a matter of years, this five piece So-Cal reggae rock band has been touring with high profile names like Iration, Rebelution, Tribal Seeds, The Green and the list goes on. It takes huge talent and a ton of work to “climb the ranks” and make it this far in such a short time. Just looking at 2011, Through the Roots released an EP Here to Stay, which debuted at number two in the iTunes Reggae Charts. Following this release, the band hit the road performing a whopping 140+ shows.
No fluff, no overly synthesized instruments… just hard hitting lyrics
The band’s 2013 release of Take You There is their first full length album, which sat quite nicely at number three on iTunes Reggae Charts. Take You There is an ambitiously catchy album as well as being an aesthetically energetic one. Being it’s first full release, you really couldn’t tell by listening to the album’s tracks. The sound and overall foundation of these tracks are truly phenomenal. No fluff, no overly synthesized instruments…just hard hitting lyrics, and solid riffs from everyone on board. There’s no arguing that these guys will be around for a long time, and will definitely rise to the top at the pace they’re moving.
Take You There includes tracks that are cast with an energetic tranquility, emanating both from Evan’s vocals and top notch instrumental arrangements that beautifully transition between each verse. Each song aligns itself very nicely to the next, making you yearn for more once the album has done playing. The second song on the album titled “Higher” is a prime example of just how a masterpiece should be written, which you can listen to below.
If you’re hesitant on picking up this album, just bite the bullet and do it…trust us. You will not be disappointed.
