Brazilian world music and soul rebel Frederico7 returns with a double-single drop on September 17th, one with an accompanying music video! For those unaware of this Austin-based Latin music-meets-soul reggae-meets-psych rock humanitarian and activist, Frederico7 continues to push liberating calls to action within his music concerning mental health advocacy, self-awareness and socioeconomic change.
We, at Top Shelf Music, are proud to host the exclusive world premiere of “Missing My Children” — the pop reggae sister song to “Truth Is Power”.
With the two singles available tomorrow on all digital outlets, we get a sneak peek at “Missing My Children”, an ode to (you guessed it) being away from your kids for long periods of time. Whether the reason be work, war or pandemic, situations arise in life that are unpredictable and devastating for those with families. Frederico7 loves “living one’s life under another shadow”, appreciating the fulfilling feeling of being a parent. Conceived during last year’s quarantine period, Frederico7 is joined on the track by veteran Austin-based bassist and producer Sidão Santos (of Seu Jorge), as well as Brazilian guitar heavyweight Sergio Yazbek (of Cidade Negra). Produced and engineered by Beto Martinez (Grupo Fantasma/Brownout), “Missing My Children” further comes to life in the new video by MattyPo, with imagery of Frederico7 chanting his lyrics in between home footage of kids playing in their hometown streets and front yards.
Following the 2019 release of his debut and critically-acclaimed album Exótico Americano, recorded largely in Spanish, Frederico7 explains his choice to do this single in English: “I continue to write music in Portuguese and Spanish. However, at this time, I am working on an EP of English songs only (due in 2022), as a way to thank and share a deeper side of myself with the American public that has welcomed my music with open hearts and ears. Music allows us to share the essence of our soul and these songs accomplished that.”
Amen to that! Be the first to tune into the video above and make sure to check out the other half of this world release “Truth Is Power” via the pre-order links below. To put his money where his mouth is, Frederico7 has promised to donate 100% of the singles’ revenue from songs downloaded on his Bandcamp page to the SIMS Foundation, providing substance use and mental health recovery services to those struggling with addiction in the music industry. And, Frederico7 doesn’t stop there! For those in the Austin area, fans of Frederico7 can celebrate this massive double-single release live at Southamericano Fest’s Far Out Lounge on September 18th!
