It was a beautiful night in Sacramento on October 8th… 73 degrees and the sky was dimly lit, yet full of stars. There were two large lines of excited fans circling around the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium. As the crowds entered the venue, many were walking as fast as they could to the pit and seats. Everyone was ready for Lana Del Rey!
Many fans were wearing Lana Del Rey tour and ‘Norman Fucking Rockwell’ shirts. As the stage crew did mic checks and tested the drums, fans went crazy and screamed. The stage was unique, with a giant black screen behind the stage, two large plants on either side and leaves hanging from the ceiling. The stage looked like a large forest.
In the middle of “Born to Die”, Lana pointed the mic to the crowd and all sang in unison. It was breathtaking to watch and listen.
Around 8:45pm, LDR’s band members came out and fans went wild, screaming with excitement as Lana walked onstage in a stunning yellow dress and started her first song “Norman Fucking Rockwell”. Fans were singing every lyric to that beautiful song right back to her. As Lana launched into “Bartender”, concert-goers went crazy again and continued to sing with her. After playing fan-favorite “Mariners Apartment Complex”, Lana asked the crowd if she should play “Born to Die”? Fans responded with an echoing “YES”! The background of the stage then turned red as Lana started singing. There were two backup singers, one pianist, one guitarist and one drummer in sync. In the middle of “Born to Die”, Lana pointed the mic to the crowd and all sang in unison. It was breathtaking to watch and listen.
Later, Lana performed “Blue Jeans” as the background changed to a blue screen. Each song had a color change depending on the vibe of the song. In this particular song, blue represented the clothing of a former lover. During “Pretty When You Cry”, Lana and the dancers laid down in the middle of the stage. The background screen displayed a live recording of Lana and her dancers with visual effects, lying on a sandy beach with ocean waves splashing on them. The stage was also foggy to fit the feeling of the song. It was very creative, to say the least! Shortly after, glitter floated down upon the stage and the crowd was mesmerized. The leaves above the stage had lights around them, too.
Towards the end of the show, Lana asked the audience for a song they wanted to hear.
Later in the show, large swings descended from the side of the stage for dancers to swing back and forth on. During “Ultraviolence”, the background had a point of view camera shot to make it seem like someone was walking around a forest and a wedding, with Lana decked out in white flowers. After finishing the song, Lana asked, “Summertime?” The fans shrieked and, shortly after, Lana played her most popular song. During her version of Sublime’s “Doin’ Time”, the background had a video of giant palm trees to superimpose the California vibe.
Towards the end of the show, Lana asked the audience for a song they wanted to hear. The crowd chose “West Coast”. Lana walked to the pianist and asked him if he could pull it off, because they hardly play it live. Regardless, Lana and her band jammed out to “West Coast” and the background had another cool visual effect. It looked like Lana was on fire!
During “Off To The Races”, Lana and her dancers moved their arms around as if they were sprinting. Even fans in the crowd were moving their arms to mimic it as the guitarist, pianist and drummer were rocking their heads to the beat. Before her last song, Lana thanked everyone for being there and was very appreciative. The last song of the night was another one of the fan-favorites, “Venice Bitch”. It was all love for Lana Del Rey, as Sacramento enjoyed dark paradise.
