The latest, greatest reggae rock festival is back in action for Year Two at the Rawhide Western Town and Event Center for February 2020! Moving up a few weekends on the calendar, the return of Arizona Roots Festival — a sister fest to the renowned and celebrated California Roots Festival every Memorial Day Weekend in Monterey — will take place over two days in Chandler, AZ this upcoming February 22nd and 23rd. This shift is actually a blessing to reggae rock lovers, knowing full well that the fest conflicted with Long Beach’s One Love Cali Reggae Festival earlier this year. Fear no more, friends, for you can now do both!
After AZ Roots’ smashing success in its inaugural year, AZ Roots 2 is set to bear even more southwest festival fruit.
After AZ Roots’ smashing success in its inaugural year, AZ Roots 2 is set to bear even more southwest festival fruit. Yesterday marked the announcement of 2020’s full lineup and what a lineup it was. Headlining the two days will be returning AZ Roots 1 bredren Rebelution and the legendary Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley — talk about a late February party! Throughout the rest of the weekend, the lineup is split in two: big name reggae acts and a myriad of local up-and-comers. That’s what is so special about AZ Roots… the actual ‘roots’ involved its curation. AZ bands such as ZeeCeeKeely, Fayuca, Clint Stevens and Kush County will play in 2020 alongside reggae greats, such as Steel Pulse, Collie Buddz and The Expendables. Two reggae rock bands making major waves within this past year will also be gracing the stage, HIRIE and Iya Terra. Those bands are shattering previously impervious reggae rock glass ceilings and it’s magical to witness their continued growth. The east coasters are also joining the mix, like Passafire, Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, DUBBEST and LAW Records’ latest Vana Liya. Lest we forget Satsang, 4th & Orange, SYNRGY and Artikal Sound System to round out the weekend. What a way to kick off spring festival season!
With the breathtaking backdrop of Chandler’s hilly desert landscape, AZ Roots is a sight to behold only in person. You have to experience it firsthand. Luckily, you already have your chance to snag tickets, with passes on sale as of this morning! Now is the time to purchase your passes, with general admission starting as low as $89. Just $89!!! Want an upgraded experience? Spring for the Cypress Pass (VIP), allowing you express entry, premium bathrooms, better stage viewing and commemorative swag. There were standing portable heaters in the VIP section last year too, which, by our count, was worth every penny once night fell and the temperature dropped. Just saying. That not enough for you? AZ Roots 2 is further offering the Willow Pass (VVIP), which comes with everything the Cypress Pass offers, but also comp drinks and catered dinner.
