The future burns bright for Victoria Ivy Embers

Victoria Ivy Embers is giving us the best vibes. Somewhat new to the music industry, she has already begun to build such a fanbase, with Spotify boasting over 9,700 monthly listeners!

I checked out her track “Blue” and was hooked.

The haunting undertones and melodies are emotional; it feels like love lost. I am sure every single one of us can relate to that deep cut into the soul. This track takes us there although a beautiful pain. “Hell of a Guy”, another track worth mentioning, is quite different from the “Blue” with screaming 80s vibes — reminiscent of New Order, but with a twist. As an artist, Embers burns bright above the rest, which is why Top Shelf was beyond thrilled to have a chat on her progress thus far and what’s to come.

Please, tell us about yourself! Where are you from?

  • VIE: I am from Old Westbury, New York. I also grew up in Austin, Texas and Los Angeles, California. My original passion has always been in writing, but I have been a lover of listening to music all my life. I think living in such creative areas of the country contributed towards my experimenting in the arts and was definitely an influence on how I expanded fictional novel writing into writing music, too.
  • I have been writing music for two years now, since the age of 16, but have only just started releasing music within the last six months.

Speaking of, we love your single ‘Blue’ — we can’t get enough!

  • ‘Blue’ is an 80s-inspired pop/rock ballad that touches upon the emotional experience of being backstabbed by a loved one. [It’s] reached nearly 150,000 streams on Spotify.
  • My second single, ‘Hell of A Guy’, was released on November 17th of 2023. ‘Hell Of a Guy’ is an 80s-inspired pop song that strives to embrace and empower women in toxic relationships. This song is dedicated to girls who have given the ‘nice guy’ a chance… When, in turn, these guys are just as bad as the rest. This song is also dedicated to guys who chase after multiple girls with the intention of hurting or cheating on them, simply so they can boost their own fragile egos. I wrote these lyrics as a reminder for young girls to never lose themselves or their self-confidence over a shitty guy.
  • Right now, I am only releasing singles. However, I think a concept album could be a lot of fun.

How do you feel, now that you’ve broken into the music industry?

  • The music industry is a male-dominated industry, especially when it comes to producing and writing and all that. Most of my musical inspirations growing up have been men, or male-fronted bands. It is hard when you compare yourself to these men, as a girl, in a male-dominated industry. I highly respect women who have made their mark in the music scene. Despite being inspired by many male artists musically, I [write songs] from a female perspective with a female audience in mind. I’d like to be a role model for other young girls to know that they are good enough and they, too, can achieve anything a man can.

In that vein, what do you believe is the greatest barrier to your artistry?

  • My greatest barrier would have to be being self-taught and independent. Oftentimes, I compare myself to artists who have been in music for much longer than I’ve been and who have received professional training and feedback, as well as artists who are signed to a label and have full usage of fancy recording equipment. I sometimes feel as though I’m not as good or professional as others, but I always remind myself that everyone starts somewhere and it’s only a barrier if we let it become one.

What advice would you give to other aspiring artists?

  • I’m an advocate for following your dreams. We have one life; our dreams will remain dreams if we don’t have the motivation to make them into a reality. We are the creators of our own lives. There’s no better time to start than now.

And are you touring soon…?

  • I don’t have any plans to tour, but once I release more songs, I’d love to at some point. I’ve always dreamed of road life… touring from city to city on a bus.

Just for fun — do you have any ghost stories you want to share?

  • As for ghost stories, here’s a little insider scoop: the title of my next single I’ll be releasing is called ‘Haunted’.

Last, what words do you have for your current fans or future listeners?

  • Thank you for supporting my music! I hope you can connect or be inspired by my lyrics in any way! Don’t forget to stream ‘Hell of A Guy’ on Spotify! <3
