Jon Vinyl fills Los Angeles’ Moroccan Lounge

On Saturday, May 27th, Jon Vinyl — the Toronto-based singer-songwriter — made a stop in downtown east Los Angeles to perform some of his relatable and timeless love songs at the intimate Moroccan Lounge live venue, where he was joined by another Toronto-based artist, Benita.

As the chilly air rolled into Los Angeles, fans started to quickly trickle into the 250-capacity size venue where you’d see chandeliers hung up high, disco balls shining throughout the room and a bar filled with fans awaiting to get their favorite beverages before heading to the stage.

With fans gathered up against the small stage, drinks in hand, you could see the smoke slowly starting to rise.

The lights faded, which meant it was time for the evening to begin. As fans cheered and clapped, Benita, who opened the show, popped out from behind the stage curtains and began her set. Beginning her singing career by opening up for local Toronto artists and singing in musicals, Benita started off the night with songs such as “Dopamine”, “Toxic”, and “The Other Side”. Throughout the set, the crowd was vibing, swaying to the beat and erupted in cheers every time Benita would belt out some beautiful harmonies, spreading admiration on everyone’s faces. I could tell that there were fans that have never heard of Benita before, but after tonight, she definitely gained a lot more listens. And once Benita exited the stage, I even heard some people saying, “wow, she is amazing!”

When Jon Vinyl took the stage, you could feel the excitement in the room.

The tiny space erupted in screams, loud chanting, and everyone had the biggest smiles on their faces. You could just tell that they’ve been waiting a while to see their favorite artist hit their hometown and that’s when you knew that this night would be a very special one for the Canadian R&B/Soul singer. From the beginning and throughout the setlist, you saw Jon Vinyl grinning from ear to ear, seeing how all of his fans knew his songs word-for-word, singing along the whole night. You just felt the love that everyone was giving to Jon Vinyl while he was up on that stage. Songs such as “Entice Me”, “No Feelings”, “FTU”, and “Pressure” were some that were performed, showing off his silky smooth and sweet soulful tonality. Towards the end of the set, Jon Vinyl was also given roses to hand out to his biggest fans standing in the front row. Not long after that, Miguel‘s “Sure Thing” cover was sung beautifully; everyone in the room sang along to the hugely popular hit song. Jon Vinyl’s next stop on tour is New York and Toronto, so be sure to check him out!
