blink-182 reunites with “Edging” single

After 10 years, Mark Hoppus, Tom DeLonge and Travis Barker have reunited! blink-182 is back! And, they’ve released their first single “Edging” from their upcoming album. The three musicians haven’t released music together since their Dogs Eating Dogs EP in 2012. Needless to say, many fans of the band were very excited to hear of their return. Drummer Travis Barker had the following to say about the new track, which he also produced:

“I wanted to imagine, as a listener, what I wanted to experience and at the same time, as a band member, what we wanted to make and say… and, most importantly, how it would sound production-wise in 2022.”

The track opens with sharp and flanging drums — very similar to the beginning of “Feeling This”.

DeLonge’s distinctive vocals start the first verse with a lot of emotions. “They’ll be hangin’ me quick when I’m back from the dead // Get the rope, get the rope!” What makes blink-182 a unique band are the back-and-forth vocals from DeLonge and Hoppus. This track blends their vocals perfectly as the chorus starts with DeLonge’s “no way, no, I leave them broken-hearted”, followed by Hoppus’ “oh no, look at the mess we started”. The last time they sang back-and-forth like that was in the form of “When I Was Young”.

Hoppus’ toned vocals then begin the second verse: “I got a fire in my eye, a little blood on my shirt // Let’s hit the road, hit the road!” Hoppus continues with the bridge, singing, “there’s a special place in hell // That, my friends, and I know well.”

“Edging” is a catchy, carefree and rewarding single. We can’t wait to hear what’s in store next from the iconic, raunchy band! Their amusing music video to accompany the track is directed by Lyrical Lemonade’s Cole Bennett can be seen below.
