It’s been a long, long year without music festivals. We’re all feeling so repressed. Sure, drive-in concerts have held (some of) us over through the global pandemic, yet nothing compares to the mass gathering of a music festival… being in a totally free environment with likeminded people, vibing simultaneously to epic one-of-a-kind performances for days on end.
After one extremely frustrating year, Arizona is ready to welcome reggae-lovers back with the state’s first in-person live music festival.
It’s the step forward we’ve all been patiently waiting for! Vaccine or not, this event is moving forward at Buckeye’s Hidden Lake this upcoming April 9th-11th. Presented by Dub Shack, ¡Viva Iriezona! will be three days of festival fun, live-painting and one-site camping — a true “celebration of music and arts”. Before you panic about COVID, this fest is taking all the precautions necessary to introduce live music back into the world, encouraging all attendees to mask up, remain socially-distant and please stay home if experiencing any COVID symptoms. The venue at Hidden Lake is huge, yet also private property, allowing event organizers to allot a safe percentage capacity as to not overcrowd. That means tickets are limited and going fast! And, with the cheap general admission price of $75 weekend and $45 single-day passes, why not join the fun?! It’s the only fun around for a while!
Did we mention ¡Viva Iriezona!’s lineup is top-notch? Headlining Day One is Kyle Smith, with Black Bottom Lighters, Aaron Wolf, Desert Fish, The Tones and So/Below starting the weekend off right. Folk-reggae heavyweight Mike Love closes down Day Two, with locals ZeeCeeKeely as direct support alongside The Late Ones, Lakedub, The Riddims, Ras Rebellion, High Frequency and Summit Dub Squad. Karim Israel of Arise Roots is also set to do a solo acoustic performance! Rilen Out, Jahlos and the Rebels, Pacific Roots, Undisclosed and The Resinators kick off Day Three, followed by DUBBEST, SYNRGY, The Irie and Sensi Trails wrapping the weekend up in style.
