Foghat rocks the Canyon Club in Agora Hills

Last Friday night felt like a movie. It’s mid-afternoon. My best gal pal and I are driving in an 86’ Chevy S10 Blazer. The windows are down, the sun is shining and KLOS 95.5 LA’s classic rock station is cranked to 11.

Foghat has been rocking out since the 70s and their ability to constantly stay touring and making music has made them iconic and beloved throughout the generations. Drummer Roger Earl remains the lone original member, but has since surrounded himself with excellent talent in lead guitarist Bryan Bassett, lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Charlie Huhn and bass guitarist Rodney O’Quinn. Canyon Club, Agora Hills — thank you for the atmosphere, attitude and stellar vibes! Foghat and friends — where do I even begin?? Thank you for providing the soundtrack and being the stars of a truly timeless and exciting night out.

Liquid Circus came on first to gear the crowd up for a great app-e-teaser of what was in store for the evening. They played a whammy-heavy, boot-stomping first set, quintessential for a classic rock show. While Liquid Circus reverberated our eardrums, the Canyon’s sweet bartender provided us a table to sit and enjoy the show in style. Because everyone was so awesome, soon we made a new friend and dinner was served! It was a truly unique and refined way to listen to rock n’ roll. Tasty lasagna and damn good chocolate cake and chatting about our favorite throwbacks and feeling the anticipation for what we would be hearing as the night progressed. Again, hats off to the Canyon Club for its amazing ambiance!

As we dined in a sea of leather jackets and long hair, Fat Daddy Special came onstage next. Their tasteful mash-up of bluesy rock n’ roll made for a groovy time. For anybody who seriously loves that old classic sound, these guys are worth getting to know! These SoCal natives have been playing steadily for decades and it shows. Secondly, their stage presence was so captivating and classic that it only added to this feeling like the whole evening was part of some awesome ‘Almost Famous-esque’ movie being filmed in Agora Hills that we were lucky enough to be a part of.

About the time we were fighting over the last few bites of chocolate cake, our main men, Foghat, stole the attention!

About the time we were fighting over the last few bites of chocolate cake, our main men, Foghat, stole the attention! In fact, I don’t even know which of us got the lucky blend of chocolate mousse-y goodness as Huhn’s energy filled first few notes.

Of course, the set was insane and exciting; we jammed through “Fool For The City”, “I Just Want To Make Love To You”, my personal anthem “Chevrolet”, and customarily enthralling, crowd-engaging “Slow Ride” sent the crowd roaring to the finish line. It was particularly lovely looking across an audience of happy faces captivated by Foghat’s music. Even in the laidback setting of a country club, it was full-on badass-ery and excitement. Inspiring us all to stay young, fun at heart and to never forget our dancing shoes, in this scene, there’s no such thing as too loud or too old!
