The annual Slam Dunk Festival returns to the United Kingdom this summer! The North installation of the festival takes place on Friday, June 3rd at Temple Newsam in Leeds, followed by the South installation on Saturday, June 4th at Hatfield Park in Hatfield. Slam Dunk is a one-day festival taking place in two different cities and is known for featuring pop punk, ska, emo, metal and alternative rock artists. This year’s lineup is of no exception. Legendary bands like Sum 41, Alexisonfire, Neck Deep and Dropkick Murphys are headlining, with support from fan-favorites like 3OH!3, The Wonder Years, Motion City Soundtrack, Pennywise, Knuckle Puck and Stand Atlantic.
Slam Dunk Festival is associated with Slam Dunk Records. Echoing back to their record label roots of showcasing up-and-coming artists, this year’s festival will have performances from some lesser known artists that have been picking up steam in the scene, such as Kennyhoopla, Meet Me @ The Altar, Mod Sun and Magnolia Park. This year’s lineup also features highly anticipated returns to live music from several bands, including The Summer Set.
This will be the first UK performance made by the Arizona pop punk band since they announced their “indefinite hiatus” in 2017.
Slam Dunk Festival was canceled in 2020 due to the global pandemic, but occurred again in the fall of 2021. The return of the festival has not come without its challenges, as the festival was forced to postpone their original spring dates to the fall, required ticket holders to either provide proof of a negative PCR test or double vaccination upon entry; it also faced several lineup changes in the final weeks prior to the 2021 festival, in order to accommodate the volatile travel restrictions across countries. For instance, the band With Confidence is scheduled to perform at this year’s Slam Dunk Festival after they dropped from the 2021 festival, providing the following statement on their social profiles: “As NSW lockdowns and gov restrictions on international travel tighten and access to vaccinations is still highly limited in Australia, it is unfortunately not currently feasible for us to make it over for these shows.”
In addition to the festival days, there are Slam Dunk official launch parties the night before each of the North and South dates, as well as an afterparty in London following the conclusion of the festival! These parties will occur at clubs near the festival venues and will be restricted to persons who are 18 or older.
Big Green Coach will be providing coach transportation options from over 20 different cities around the UK directly to the festival grounds. All coaches are scheduled to arrive prior to doors of the festival opening and will return after all music has finished. Big Green Coach will also provide a shuttle service from Leeds city centre on the North date, as well as a coach service to London for the afterparty following the completion of the South date.
Single day tickets for both dates, as well as weekend passes and VIP upgrades, are still available. Patrons under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult. For more information regarding festival tickets, official pre-show and aftershow parties and coach services, visit Slam Dunk’s website.
