In the fine words of Sheryl Crow, “this ain’t no disco” and “it ain’t no country club, either”. That’s right, because alternative rock is harder and here to stay. In this same vein, the fine festival producers over at Goldenvoice introduced This Ain’t No Picnic to high acclaim, set to grace the Pasadena Rose Bowl on August 27th and 28th of this year. Being a veteran at weekend music and arts affairs, Goldenvoice naturally selected only the top underground artists (excuse the oxymoron) for this year’s installment.
This ain’t no picnic… it’s more like a potluck, with a little bit of everything.
Goldenvoice isn’t new to the Rose Bowl, by any means. From Arroyo Seco Weekend to Pasadena Daydream to Just Like Heaven to Cruel World, Brookside at the Rose Bowl has been home to some massively entertaining weekend excursions! Of course, This Ain’t No Picnic is not expected to break from this trend. Headlining the two days are rock heavyweights The Strokes and indie legends LCD Soundsystem, with so much talent in between! Like house vibes? Well, you’re in luck, since that’s the majority of the lineup: Kaytranada, Kelly Lee Owens, Logic1000, Honey Dijon, Palms Trax… the list goes on and on. Alt rockers can rejoice with the inclusion of Phoebe Bridgers, Le Tigre, Beach House, Enjoy and Sparks. Like a lower kind of -fi? Check out Mac DeMarco, Arooj Aftab. Get your electro-soul groove on with Jungle or mosh to Descendents, IDLES, Turnstile or Circle Jerks. The Ying Yang Twins are even going to be there!
If that lineup wasn’t enough, LCD Soundsystem collabs with Soulwax to bring you their side project, Despacio, all weekend long! There won’t be an idle set of feet in place. Weekend and single-day General Admission tickets are still available at this time, as well as VIP upgrades.
