Swedish acclaimed singer-songwriter Andreas Moe delivers another taste of his forthcoming EP with “Hey Lulu”, premiering only on Top Shelf Music today ahead of its public release April 9th! The five-time Platinum-certified artist has had a hand in writing songs for the likes of Cheat Codes, Sabrina Carpenter, Tïesto, Tinie Tempah, Omi, Boyzone; has toured with the likes of John Mayer, Gabrielle Aplin and Kodaline… not to mention several of his songs being featured in movies like The Knot or on the hit reality TV show, American Idol. Yet, it is all the more refreshing to hear one of Moe’s cleverly-worded originals sung by the man himself.
No matter where you go in the world, “Hey Lulu” hits home for all.
Starting with the notion “we should rent a car that we could never afford and drive the coastline”, the song immediately captures everyone’s innate sense of escapism. And, that couldn’t come at a better time, considering the whole world is on the brink of finally opening up after a year-long COVID shutdown! Moe’s soft, smooth vocals over warm acoustic guitar strums coaxes us out to Spain, where we “learn the tango”. Or, if you’re not up for the trip, we can simply “stay inside and talk until the sun’s turning black and take it real slow”. It don’t matter, as long as we’re together.
“Lulu” is less a person and more a concept — time passes by, yet lifelong friends remain the same. Andreas Moe comments, “Regardless of the circumstances, distance or time, you will always be there for them — no matter what. You will always do your best to listen without judgment and to encourage and show them that they are loved and appreciated in a permanent way. This friendship in the song is with a girl called Lulu… I think we all have at least one Lulu in our life who we feel deserves more and can achieve more with the right kind of love and support.”
