Alexia Johnson for #TopShelfMusic here, with another TSM Artist #HotList! This week, we visit two artists from New York City, a pop reggae group from the Solomon Islands and indulge in some perspective with a Canadian rap artist. Let’s dive right in!
“Higher” — Ronimus
Ronimus is an artist hailing from New York City. Originally born in Kingston, Jamaica, Ronimus flawlessly blends together the sounds of his upbringing. His debut album, Ronimus I, combines the sounds of Jamaican dancehall and patois, resulting in an almost jazzy hip hop house vibe. Ronimus has found his home in NYC and is excited to showcase his unique musicianship. We chose this song for his unique ethereal and jazzy take on dancehall.

The song we are featuring today by Jair Dynast is “At Risk” due to its conscious elements. If anyone is familiar with the underground Canadian hip hop scene, it is focused on the perspective of the person experiencing the song’s narrative. To understand that every person is different and to open yourself up to others is extremely important — especially in times like these!
