WORLD VIDEO PREMIERE: Kirsty Rock “Light It Up”

Kirsty Rock, lauded member of the international reggae supergroup Easy Star All-Stars, brings her own soulful, earthy reggae sound to life in the official video release of “Light It Up”. The music video — filmed in a literal secret cave in the lush Green Mountains of Vermont — was a collaboration between co-producer and composer Shelton Gardner and Elenna Canlas. “Light It Up” comes from recent solo debut album, Slow Burn, released via Easy Star Records on May 6, 2022.

Rock says of the video: “I can’t thank Shelton Garner and Elenna Canlas enough for hiking up to play with me.”

“It was not easy to get to. I’m not sure Shelton would have co-produced and composed this song had he known it required spelunking! The natural acoustics of this cave are breathtaking and the atmosphere otherworldly,” Rock continues, “Vermont and nature have been extremely influential in my music and visual language.”

The video captures Rock, Garner and Canlas sitting peacefully amongst the cave rocks, singing, drumming and strumming their way through an unplugged acoustic version of “Light It Up”. Weaving stories of heartbreak and empty homes, Rock’s powerful voice taps into the deepest part of the soul and vividly illustrates the themes of release and fear.

Drawing additional inspiration from her harrowing experience with Hurricane Irene, “Light It Up” is a personal journey with a universal message. She explains: “’Light It Up’ is the first song I wrote for my new album, Slow Burn, though I didn’t realize I was writing an album at the time. The catalyst for this song was Hurricane Irene: almost losing my home and all my belongings to the flooding in Vermont, while I was away on tour in Mexico with Easy Star All-Stars. I felt untethered and fearful in a way that I had never experienced before.”
