Day Three of California Roots 2018 was one for the record books! Once the Monterey Fairgrounds gates opened, explosive energy was brought forth by bands like New Kingston, DARENOTS and GRAMMY-nominees Raging Fyah. Cali Roots 9 might've been on its last leg, but the fest was far from done. And, it wasn't just the energy that made it great! It was a conglomerate of everything: Mike Love brought upfulness on the Cali Roots Stage, The Original Wailers rocked the Bowl with nostalgic Bob classics and Tash Sultana's raw talent shocked and awed all who attended her all-out performance. Tash is simply BEYOND.
Cali Roots 9 might've been on its last leg, but the fest was far from done.
The day continued with OG Cali Roots veterans like The Green and Slightly Stoopid, both of which had extra special guests hop onstage, like Eric Rachmany of Rebelution for the former and unexpected artists like Alborosie and Don Carlos for the latter. The whole place went nuts when Don Carlos started smoking a spliff bigger than his arm and passing it around to the crowd. At this point, Weedmaps pop-up stage winner Kyle Smith was hosting an acoustic performance for those needing to take a breather on bean bags and blankets before Tribal Seeds closed down the Cali Roots Stage for the weekend. Speaking of acoustic performances, other pop-ups that day included another stellar show by DARENOTS and crowd-favorite Iya Terra, who also had special guests jump up, like Travi Bongo of Fortunate Youth and RJ Pereira of For Peace Band. The headliner for the entire festival was 311, who, after touring for a whopping 28 years, still can put on a show like they were doing it for the first time. Those guys slay. Until next year, Cali Roots attendees flocked back to their respective residences, waiting with baited breath to hear the first announcement for the highly anticipated Cali Roots X. That's right, it'll be 10 years next May! What a movement this festival has turned into… and still becoming. #isitMayyet
