Just Like Heaven 2024

An indie rocker’s dream was brought to life courtesy of Southern California’s Just Like Heaven Music Festival. The one day extravaganza returned to the Brookside at the Rose Bowl on Saturday, May 18 for its forth and biggest installment yet. Festival producers, Goldenvoice, hosted two brilliantly lit stages paired with excellent sound in the beautiful Brookside golf complex. This amazing venue accommodated plenty of nearby parking and tons of large open space for relaxed musical enjoyment. And the music… was just the “chefs kiss” on the day. The Postal Service and Death Cab for Cutie ended their respective albums’s 20 year anniversary tour with their knockout performance that closed out the festival.

Millennials everywhere fantasized about this years line up which featured Phoenix, The War on Drugs, Mike Snow, Passion Pit, Two Door Cinema Club, Phantogram, Metric, Gossip, Washed out, and more. Once you entered those gates at the Brookside, you were transported to the early 2000s. The festival really hit all the bases of setting up a great fan experience… plenty of easy to find restrooms, an idiot-proof layout which was a straight line back and forth from the Orion Stage to the Stardust Stage with A Club Called Rhonda stationed in between. The schedule was set to try to accommodate every single artist their own time to shine which was such a hit with attendees.

Long gone are the days where you are forced to pick between two artists, who knew we could get here!?

In between the stages, I was pleasantly surprised with all the different food options and the short time it took to get it. At no point in the day did I notice insanely long lines for anything really that would put a hold on the day. I noticed plenty of food options including a pop up Monty’s plant based Burgers and shakes. Festee’s could dive deeper into the nostalgia thanks to the pop up record shop on the campus as well. Goldenvoice, you’ve done it again.

Although this gem may only come once a year, you won’t want to miss out on the many upcoming Goldenvoice events of the 2024 festival season. In addition to many California shows, Portola will be the newest installment to the festival family taking place this September in San Francisco.
