Reggae Rise Up Florida brings joy to fans returning to the gorgeous seaside Vinoy Park in St. Petersburg, Florida for its 6th year with some HOT new acts to ring in the new decade. For those of you who do not know, Reggae Rise Up Florida is the #1 stop for reggae rock festivals on the east coast.
This year, RRUF will host bands reggae heads have come to love, like Damian Jr. Kong Marley, Slightly Stoopid, Dirty Heads, SOJA, Nahko and the Medicine for the People, Matisyahu, HIRIE, Collie Buddz, Ballyhoo!, Fortunate Youth, Protoje, The Expendables, Jesse Royal, The Movement, Badfish, Landon Mcnamara, Groundation and Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad. The event will further host several up-and-coming bands, like Cloud 9 and Vana Liya (one of my personal favorites). Also performing will be Tribe of I, Kezmandi, The Elovaters, Ries Brothers, 4th & Orange, Tropico BLVD, Resinated, Summer Survivors, Soflow and DUBBEST.
The event will feature three days of music and festivities, from 12pm to 10pm Friday through Sunday. At RRUF, you will find that there are many things to do for all ages. Aside from the awesome live music, your ticket includes access to the artist mural gallery. Nestled right on the water, amongst a comfy seating area filled with couches and lounge chairs, you will find some of your favorite artists painting away large-scale murals. We would suggest checking it out right at sunset, as the mood lighting comes on. You will find shades of purples, greens and blues, and the colorful reflection bouncing back across the sea. Around the end of Day Two and the middle of Day Three, the murals are generally done and available for photo ops with your family and friends.
Upon taking a walk around the grounds, you will find that the vendor village features a wide variety of food and retail options. In the food area, you will find gluten-free, vegetarian, meat and dessert options. Many of the vendors feature world food options, like Jamaican, Polynesian, American vegan delights, southern comfort food options and classic fair foods. In the retail area, you can find world treasures, art booths and brands we love, like Cutlass, Sugar Shack, Support Local Reggae, LAW Records and more. Make sure to take a walk around and check out the vendors Day One to see which booths will feature artist signings, artist acoustic sets and photo ops!

If you haven’t heard, Reggae Rise Up recently entered into a partnership with west coast favorite California Roots Music and Arts Festival. We cannot wait to see what they start cooking up together! Keep a lookout on both of their social media platforms to see what they do with it.
Here, at Top Shelf Music, we encourage loving up-and-coming artists as much as headlining acts, so check out these videos of RRUF 2020 artists to look for once inside!
Vana Liya, signed to Pepper’s own LAW Records, has been making some serious waves in the scene as of late. Opening for artists like SOJA, Fortunate Youth, Pepper and more, our girl is making way for a successful touring career. We picked this video, filmed in this writer’s hometown of Sacramento, to showcase Vana Liya’s “Show Me”.
Another up-and-coming artist to keep a look out for is DUBBEST, hailing from Boston. They have actually been performing together since 2009, when the band members met in high school. You will find that DUBBEST’s sound is traditionally rootsy, with a 70s tone. If you were to hear the song below in a record store, you might not be able to tell that their music was recorded in the last five years. Here is DUBBEST performing “Day Dream” at Sugar Shack Sessions in Florida.
