WORLD VIDEO PREMIERE: Papa Rosko “When You Say Nothing At All”, feat. Gyptian

Papa Rosko might be emerging on the scene, with his debut full-length on the horizon, yet he is far from inexperienced. Based now in the cultural melting pot of South Florida, Papa Rosko’s beginnings were humble, hailing originally from Nashville, Tennessee where he fronted a reggae band by the name of Voodoo Possum. It was there where Papa Rosko began to put a reggae twist on country covers, branching into a more fusion sound as he went. Now solo, Papa Rosko is ready to rock the world with his own style, blending reggae with rock, pop, Latin and, of course, his country roots.

With his self-titled debut on the horizon, due out October 16th, Papa Rosko teases what’s to come in this world video premiere of “When You Say Nothing At All”, featuring dancehall star Gyptian. The forthcoming LP was recorded between a studio in South Florida and one in Kingston, rendering a true Jamaican-American blend! And, it’s not just Gyptian on the album: Papa Rosko has teamed with Third World lead singer AJ Brown on a track and even the late, great Toots Hibbert. May Toots rest in peace.

We’ve all heard “When You Say Nothing At All”… only this time, it’s dressed to party.

Over the past three decades, this familiar love song has graced the discographies of Keith Whitley, Allison Krauss and Union Station. Papa Rosko is now determined to make it his own. Upping the tempo from the traditional ballad sound, Rosko and Gyptian party around a pool with large numbers of ecstatic women — one in particular catching Papa Rosko’s eye. A mannequin sits stationary on a couch, absorbing all the flirty (and likely unsolicited) banter Rosko spouts. Toward the end of the video, Gyptian steps in to bring the damsel in distress to life, changing human from love’s true touch. Or… something adjacent, we’re sure. With playful keys, lively horns and such a colorful video to boot, Papa Rosko breathes new life into an old country classic.
