Goldenvoice’s Cruel World Fest to span two days May 2022

Announced mid-February of 2020, Goldenvoice’s Cruel World was supposed to capture the hearts of retro rockers everywhere in May. Well, the world had other plans (as we all are aware). The inaugural event — hyped beyond belief, with headliner Morrissey alongside Bauhaus, Blondie, Devo among others — offers a title even only more applicable now that we’ve had to wait for it.

And, as luck would have it, the lineup stayed relatively the same.

Whether you call it post punk, new wave or early emo, the genre’s poetic apathy against upbeat synths allows an escape from this cruel, cruel world for all. At the top of the festival rundown is Morrissey (as before), with the aforementioned direct support as well as Echo & The Bunnymen, The Psychedelic Furs, Violent Femmes, The Church, English Beat, Public Image Ltd., The Damned, Blaqk Audio, TR/ST, Cold Cave, Jay Aston’s Gene Loves Jezebel, Berlin, Missing Persons, London After Midnight, Drag Majesty, 45 Grave, Christian Death, The Meteors, Black Marble, Sextile, Soft Kill, Automatic and The KVB. To be honest, the only thing missing from the original lineup is Gary Numan… but he’s announced a solo tour for fall 2021, so feel free to catch him separately.

Now that Goldenvoice made it public Cruel World made it through the quarantine with a new May 14th fest date, tickets flew off the proverbial shelves. Seriously — it’s sold out! With such high demand, why not introduce a second day to keep the party going? As of this week, tickets went back on sale for Cruel World 2022 with an additional day of music on May 15th at Pasadena’s Brookside at the Rose Bowl Amphitheater. For those worried that the second day will split the lineup, have no fear — the second day will simply mimic the first.
