The Empire Polo Club in Indio, California is not only home to year-round polo tournaments, but also to a handful of choice music festivals since 1993 – most notably Coachella and Stagecoach. Tucked away in the Coachella Valley near Palm Springs, the grounds transform annually into a cultural experience immeasurable to any other (depending on your musical orientation, of course). New to the site in 2016 was Desert Trip: a celebration of legendary rock artists, featuring Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones and more; new to 2017 is Desert Oasis, Desert Trip’s reggae-rock tributary. And, true to the venue's prestigious track record, the premiere Desert Oasis Music Festival will not disappoint! Get ready to mark your calendars and scour your pockets for fall festival money, because you won’t want to be the person sitting at home this October 7th and 8th.
…true to the venue's prestigious track record, the premiere Desert Oasis Music Festival will not disappoint!
Headlining the 1st Annual Desert Oasis are two of the biggest names in the industry – Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley and Rebelution. Granted, these two acts are regularly found at reggae festivals… and Desert Oasis is well aware. What sets this festy above the rest are the eclectic acts performing alongside the big guys… although a Marley with Rebelution is a pretty good start. Before Mr. Jr. Gong rocks the stage Day One, the musical lead-up is simply mind-blowing: Steel Pulse, Los Lobos, E-40, The Green, Murs, Fishbone, HIRIE, Janelle Phillips, Quinto Sol, David Macias Music, and Miss Courtney Chambers kicking off it all. Right there, we have Caribbean dancehall, Bay-area rap, non-Bay-area rap, ska, island, California reggae, Latin influence, alt-rock, pop, R&B and the funky fresh jams of Fishbone. The only person sitting still Day One is the classical music lover having absolutely no fun in the back of the crowd. Whoever brought that guy is a serious failure. Back to the lineup, and moving on to Day Two (in ascending order this time): Irie Junctions, Rich Sheldon and the Mutiny, Mozaiq, Spankshaft, Through the Roots, Inner Circle, Kinky, Fortunate Youth, Warren G, Reel Big Fish, and J Boog. And, of course, Rebelution closing it down until the 2nd Annual. Impressive? Yes. Diversified? Oh, most definitely. Worth it? You better believe it.
Sounds hands-down glorious, right? Well, you’re in luck because tickets go on sale this week! Secure your spot anytime after 12pm on Friday, July 14th, and join us in counting down the days until October. Please note that it is undetermined at this time if Desert Oasis is a camping or all-ages event, but considering that camping is encouraged for both Coachella and Stagecoach, it’s safe to assume this is an on-location event.
