Kid Hastings (born Jake McEvoy of Hastings, England) returns after a year’s hiatus with the sensual, steamy single “Call Me Up”! The track comes first off his forthcoming EP, one much anticipated following his critically-acclaimed debut ‘Golden’ EP. Well, the single is far worth the wait, for the singer-songwriter has never shone brighter.
“Call Me Up” will not only put you in the mood, it’ll do so whether you’re relaxing or raving.
With a synthy soundscape over a danceable beat, it’s as if Kid Hastings combined the fun of a Justin Timberlake single with the overall New Wave attitude of The Cure. Hastings kind of looks like a bleach-blonde Robert Smith in the video, too. Speaking of the video, Hastings teams with likeminded colleague Ava Doorey to render a femme fatale narrative turned on its head. Not only gender roles reversed, with Hastings in full make-up and Doorey in men’s attire, it seems the two have cuckolded a man at the end — played by Hastings himself! Can one assume this is a metaphor for the death of aggressive masculinity? Or, is this merely another love triangle gone awry? Who’s to know… but, it is –without a doubt — entertaining.
The single is now available on all digital platforms, as well as the video! As mentioned, “Call Me Up” is the lead track off of Hasting’s next EP, with a release date to be determined via Ourros. For more information, visit the links below.
